This page begins on March 1 with some photos of our Christmas Cactus.  Next, there are some photos that were taken at home out in the snow between March 7th and 11th. Then, beginning in Row 5 are photos that were taken on our single outing this month - a 150 mile drive to Castner Glacier, a ski trip, and the ice cave at the glacier.  Click on any thumbnail to begin.

Begin March 1st - 11th |
Here are two photos of our Christmas Cactus that show two blooms on the same cactus leaf (or paddle). We had never seen this before. |

The first image here is a 2-shot panorama of our house and woodshed that was taken from the driveway. The second and third shots were taken during a heavy snowstorm. |

Here is another 2-shot panorama of the snowstorm of March 9th. The second shot shows what it looked like by the night of March 10th - all cleared and ready for the next storm. |

If you could zoom-in to the yardstick in the snow there, you would see that the snow is 32 inches in depth. This area has not been disturbed all winter, no snow has been added and none has been removed. The second shot was taken while standing on a ladder that was leaning against the front of the house. |

Now we are driving south from Fairbanks on the Richardson Highway. Between us and the mountains of the Alaska Range is the Tanana River. |

Here is another shot of the beautiful mountains of the Alaska Range. The second shot shows snow blowing across the highway. Does the wind ever stop blowing in this area? |

We are still driving along the Richardson Highway towards Castner Glacier. The center shot shows Donnelly Dome, south of Delta Junction. |

In the center shot in this row, you can see that we have arrived. We are now about 150 miles from home and it was time to put on the ski boots and head up Castner Creek towards Castner Glacier. We cross-country skied in. |

In the first shot in this row you can note that the prominent cloud there has a tiny bit of iridescence. the cloud iridescence was quite apparent to the naked eye, but it barely shows in this photo. That is followed by two additional shots that were taken as we skied. |

I did not notice it until just now, but this row is quite similar to the row just above it, with two skiing shots and a scenic shot with blowing snow. |

And here is one more row with two skiing shots and then a scenic shot with blowing snow. Interestingly enough, it was not windy at this level. You can see the entrance to the ice cave in all three of these photos. |

Well, I guess we have arrived at the ice cave! Do you recall last year's trip to this location? The cave has collapsed in significant ways since last spring. If you would like to see what the cave looked like last year CLICK HERE. |
