There are only 2 weekends represented here this month. The first Saturday of the month we went to CostCo for shopping. The following weekend we went to the Tama River, and you will find pictures of that outing. The 3rd weekend we climbed Mt. Takao - for our 20th time - and there are pictures of that. The final weekend of the month was Christmas weekend and there are no pictures from that weekend. Click on any thumbnail to begin.

All three of these photos were taken on December 10th, not very far from our house, along the Tama River. The first shot shows a field of wild Pampas Grass. The 2nd shot is a weed in seed with an incredibly blue sky. The 3rd shot shows a small channel of the Tama River and there are little fish jumping all over the place. Why are they jumping? Who knows, maybe not even them! |

The first shot in this row is a small piece cropped out of the 3rd shot in Row 1 so that you can see the little fish jumping more clearly. The 2nd 2 photos show Mt. Fuji on December 17th taken from the summit of Mt. Takao. The sky was maybe the clearest we've ever seen it from the summit of Takao. |

In this row you can find 3 pictures of "FROST FLOWERS". By the way, if you want to learn more about frost flowers, a phenomenon which is little understood, then the current state of knowledge about them appears to be most concisely summarized here (CLICK - will open in new window). I am including several photos of frost flowers as they are a little hard to understand. I am hoping that by including several photos of them that you will be able to figure out what’s happening here. Note, in all cases, that the ice is coming OUT OF a plant stem, so look for the plant stem and go from there, okay? By the way, the 2nd and 3rd photos are the same "stem" - 2nd shot is with flash and 3rd shot is without flash. |

The first shot here is a very tall frost flower. The 2nd and 3rd shots are again the same "stem" - 2nd shot is without flash and 3rd shot is with flash. |

The first photo here is another frost flower. The 2nd and 3rd shots are candle ice. In the 2nd shot you can get a good idea of scale from Kazuya's hand. |

In this row the first two shots are more frost flowers. The first shot is from a little distance away so that you can see how many of these things there are. The 2nd shot is a nice one. The 3rd shot is from the trail walking down Mt. Takao - it is of Metropolitan Tokyo. Just to the left of center, on the skyline, you can see the towers of Shinjuku in downtown Tokyo. It was the clearest we'd ever seen it from Mt. Takao. |
