This page includes only photos taken on December 2nd and a trip on our bicycles to Kokubunji. We visited Sourousen-en (Gardens) and Tonogayato Gardens for Autumn Color Viewing. Although it was a cloudy day, we saw some amazing colors! Click on any thumbnail to begin.

Begin December 2nd
As the header information says, on December 2nd Kazuya and I took off on our bicycles and bicycled to Kokubunji to see Sourousen-en (Gardens) and Tonogayato Gardens. We make a visit to these 2 gardens just about every December to check out the Fall Colors. This year it was cloudy, but there were some truly amazing colors. We could not imagine what kind of photos we would have ended up with if it had been sunny. In this first row are 2 photos of Maple Trees, one in Sourousen-en and one in Tonogayato. The 3rd shot is a fruit of a Gardenia plant.

Here are 3 amazingly colored images. The 2nd one is a 2 photo panorama. Note how they put "girdles" on the pine trees. Kazuya explained that the reason for this is to attract any damaging insects which are in the tree. It is warmer under this band, so the insects go here to overwinter and then in about February the workers remove the "girdles" and burn them, thereby getting rid a lot of the insects too.

As for photo #1 - well, what can be said?! It's amazing. Can you imagine what it would have looked like if we would have had a sunny day? The 2nd image is another panorama. The 3rd shot is an amazingly orange-leaved maple tree.

A beautiful red maple, followed by a lady walking through a virtual collage of colors. Note the extreme right side of this photo because the next shot is zoomed in to that area to show you the colors there - orange, purple and yellow.
