This page begins with a single photo taken on December 11th. Then we jump to December 12th and a trip into town (Fairbanks). After that we show you some shots taken around the "yard" after a December 17th snow storm. Next comes two shots of a yearling-moose in the yard on December 22nd and then a shot of Kazuya wearing his Christmas Present Hat. After that we jump to the 12-inch snow storm of December 29th and 30th.  Click on any thumbnail to begin.

On December 11th I made two loaves of Pumpernickel Bread again. This photo shows me holding the loaves just after they cooled enough to hold after being removed from the oven. |

On December 12th we went into town to do some shopping. The first photo shows Fairbanks from about 3 miles north of town on the Steese Highway. The large plume of steam on the right is from the Fairbanks electric generation plant. While we were downtown Kazuya noticed this amazing sun pillar. It was so very obvious and amazing to the naked eye, but it was very difficult to show up in a photo. The second photo has been manipulated in Photoshop to make it more evident. The third photo is the same as the second one, but has not been adjusted at all.

During the night of December 17th we got about 8 inches of snow. All three photos in this row show this new snow. These three photos were all taken at around 9:55 AM, about an hour before sunrise, with the flash. |

The first shot in this row was also taken about 11:30 AM and shows the sun shining through the trees. The second and third shots were taken about 6:00 PM. The boot is eleven-inches in height from the bottom of the sole to the top. The third shot shows that we still have a good deal more of our driveway to shovel the snow from. Thank heavens that it is cold, so this snow is very lightweight. |

On December 19th we had a nice sunrise, so the first two shots show the sun shining through the trees. The third image is another two-shot panorama, looking to the west. |

On December 22nd Kazuya looked out the window and saw this yearling-moose standing there eating birch twigs. The first shot was taken through the window, which is why there are some strange things showing. For the second shot he went outdoors though, so this shot came out pretty good, after lightening it up. The time was about 10:05 AM. |

On Christmas Day in the mid-afternoon we went to some friends for a small gift-exchange and then we stayed for a huge party and white-elephant gift exchange. For the pre-party gift exchange our friends gave Kazuya this beautiful sheared beaver fur hat that you see here. This type of hat is essential here when the temperature is colder than about -20° F (about -30° C). This type of hat is the only thing that will keep your head, ears and cheeks warm at those temperatures. He is so lucky. The hat I have, which is similar to this is not nearly as nice. I gave him a KitchenAid Artisan Series Mixer for his Christmas, and also a mattress.

On December 29th and 30th we had a severe storm with strong winds. These two images were shot on the evening of December 29th at about 8:00 PM. |

It snowed like that pretty much all night I guess, because this is what things looked like on the morning of December 30th. GROAN! More snow shoveling is needed. |

Here are two more shots of the snow which was dropped during this storm. We shoveled the entire driveway during the day, and then the night of the 30th it snowed another 3+ inches and we shoveled the entire driveway again on December 31st. The wind blew like a banshee the night of December 31st too and our power was out for 4 hours. which was not bad at all - and not an inconvenience seeing as it was during the night.
