This is Page 1 of 1 - the best of May 2024!
posted: June 1st, 2024

This page begins with some photos taken around our home and garden until May 28th. On May 28th we went to the Twelvemile Summit and Eagle Summit areas in search of the very first spring flowers that appear in those mountains. We found them, as you will see in Rows 4 through 15. After that there is one more row, which shows the very latest image of our garden. Click on any thumbnail to begin.

Begin May 3rd through 22nd
These three shots were all taken at home. The first shot shows that there is still snow in the garden on May 3rd, the second shot shows the result of another small snowfall on May 6th, and the third shot, taken on May 7th, is a 3-shot panorama that was taken from the upstairs east window.

The first shot in this row shows a long shadow on May 18th at 7:14 PM as we walked down the road near our house. The second shot, taken on May 20th shows our worked-up garden spot, taken from the porch.

End May 3rd - 22nd, Begin May 28th
On May 28th we went to the mountains - specifically we went to Twelvemile Summit and Eagle Summit, on the Steese Highway. We were in search of the early spring flowers that come out in the high mountains. In this row you see Woolly Lousewort (Pedicularis lanata), Alaska Kittentails (Synthyris borealis), and the rare Alaska Blue Anemone (Anemone multiceps).

In this row, you see the Alaska Blue Anemone (Anemone multiceps) at the Twelvemile Summit Area, along with a Willow Ptarmigan (Lagopus lagopus) as it transitions from its winter plumage to its summer plumage. You may need to search a little bit to find the ptarmigan in the third shot.

Now we have moved from the Twelvemile Summit Area to the Eagle Summit Area, and here are two more shots of the Alaska Blue Anemone (Anemone multiceps), along with a shot of Blackish Oxytrope (Oxytropis nigrescens var. nigrescens).

These three photos were all taken at Underwear Turnout. The first shot shows a snowy mountain at that location, the center shot shows a Narcissus-Flowered Anemone (Anemone narcissiflora), and the third shot shows me as I study the scenery.

End May 28th, Begin May 30th
Here are two final shots of our garden. I should actually call it "Kazuya's Garden" as all I did was build the raised bed boxes. I have a feeling that this is going to be amazing to see as soon as things start to bloom.
