This page begins and ends with February 7th.  When we were driving home from town on that date we saw a flock of birds sitting in the road just 500 yards or so from the house, so as soon as we got everything out of our rig and into the house we took a walk down the road and the birds were still there - Bohemian Waxwings (Bombycilla garrulus).  WOW!  This is a bird which we have only seen a couple of times before, and have never gotten any good photos of, so we went crazy and shot photos for the entire hour which they hung around.  Click on any thumbnail to begin.

Begin February 7th |
All three photos in this row show Bohemian Waxwings (Bombycilla garrulus), as does every photo on this page. I don't know how many photos we ended up taking during the hour or so we spent shooting these beautiful birds, but when it was all said and done I kept 88 photos and Kazuya kept 150 of his photos, so we kept a total of 238 photos. Of those we'll show you the 34 best photos. In the center photo note the huge frozen berry in the mouth of the bird.

In the third photo in this row please note that the eye can be seen nicely, and also notice that bird also has a huge Mountain Ash berry in its mouth. |

The center shot in this row shows one bird passing a berry to a different bird. We saw this happen several times and we wonder if they pass berries to the old and less agile birds, pass them to their children, or just who they pass the berries to. Does anybody out there know the answer? If so please let us know through the email link at the bottom of the page. |

The first image in this row consists of two photos. The third photo shows that they have now stripped all of the berries from the Mountain Ash tree and now they are going for a chokecherry tree. They didn't leave until they'd also stripped this tree. |

The first shot in this row shows the birds still cleaning up the fruits of the chokecherry tree. The second photo shows them sitting in a tall aspen, maybe having a conference about where to go now. |

The first shot here shows several birds in flight as they scour the area for more berry trees. The second photo shows several birds sitting in a birch tree before they massed and flew away. |
