This page continues from Page 1, at 12:22 PM and shows only our trip up the Steese Highway in search of caribou. As you already know, we found them. On this page you'll find some very interesting photos that show caribou above us, below us, virtually on all sides of us, with some animals close by and some far away. One could even say that we were surrounded by caribou. What an experience! This was a day that we will remember and speak about for a long time into the future. Click on any thumbnail to begin.

Begin September 29th
Dang, it was just absolutely amazing. We had hoped to find a few caribou not too far away that we could take photos of. We never in a million years imagined that before the end of this day we would have spent several hours photographing caribou.

The first and third photos in this row are basically the same. The third shot includes one more photo in the panorama than the first shot does.

Can you even believe this? We had trouble believing that we were just so very fortunate! Note that the center photo is a four shot panoramic image.

The first shot here shows caribou. We wondered what was happening farther up the road, so we continued to drive to check it out. The second shot shows a mountainside at Eagle Summit. The outlined area shows what is included in the third photo. Look at those caribou trails that have been made over the years and years.

The first photo in this row is zoomed-out from the second shot in the row above, but you can still find and identify the area seen in the previous photo. The second shot - we have returned back to the area where we were before and we've taken quite a bit of a hike down the mountain to be able to see what's in the valley. We found another grouping of animals and we are just sitting down with our cameras and binoculars having the time of our lives.

These two photos show what can easily be seen on the mountain, versus what is difficult to see. In the first photo you can't see any sign of an animal, right? Now go ahead and check out the second photo.

We're still sitting and enjoying the view. We did move around somewhat, a quarter mile this way and a quarter mile that way, here and there, walking and sitting again.

We hope that you are noticing that we are seeing caribou on virtually all sides of us. Study the landscape - note that in some shots the animals are above us, in other shots they are below us. You should also note the various different backgrounds.

Here are three more shots of caribou. Note the smiling, maybe laughing, caribou in the second and third photos. See the youngest calf? That animal was so extremely interested in us that it seemed like it wanted to just walk up and say hello to us. Personally, I believe the laughing caribou is the parent of the calf and is excited that it finally got to see a human being so that mother was able to warn the calf about the thunder-sticks that some humans carry around during certain seasons.

Here are the final two shots for this month. Between the two of us, we shot over 2,500 photos on this date. I think I did a pretty good job of trimming that number down for display.
