This is Page 1 of 1 - the best of January, February, and March 2025!
posted: April 6, 2025

This page actually begins with some collages that Look Back to our adventures in 2024. After that there are some shots of the Aurora Borealis, some Sunrise Time photos, and then a single photo of our adventure to Chena Hot Springs. Those photos are followed by a winter trip to Twelvemile and Eagle Summit, and four photos taken at home. After that are some shots of the International Ice Sculpting masterpieces at Ice Alaska. There is a single shot of the March 13th Lunar Eclipse and after that are some images taken from our Newest Book (Wildflowers of Alaska: An Addendum to our "Wildflowers of Interior Alaska"). Click on any thumbnail to begin.

A Look Back at 2024
The first image in this row shows several cakes that Kazuya made for various events throughout the 2024 Calendar Year. The second shot shows some Nerikiri that Kazuya made for us to celebrate the Lunar New Year on January 29th - the beginning of the Year of the Snake.

On January 18th we had an incredible sunrise time of day. Here are two panoramic images of that sunrise.

On February 4th we did a day trip out to Chena Hot Springs Resort where we soaked in the Rock Lake twice and also ate a really nice lunch while drinking a beer. A nice time was had.

Twelvemile & Eagle Summits
On February 9th we did a day trip to the Twelvemile Summit and Eagle Summit areas. The first shot was taken from Cleary Summit and the other two photos were taken near Twelvemile Summit.

The first two shots were taken near Eagle Summit and the third photo was taken at Underwear Turnout - a couple of miles past Eagle Summit on the Steese Highway. We call it Underwear Turnout because the first time we went there, the first thing we found while hiking was a pair of underwear.

In the first photo all of those tracks you see are moose tracks. We had placed an old squash on the top of that chunk of power pole. Moose love pumpkins and squash and one of them had a nice snack of the frozen and half-rotten squash during the night. The second shot shows some really strange melting of the snow on the top of this pile of birch rounds, very interesting.

Ice Alaska Ice Sculptures
Now we are going to Ice Alaska - it takes place at the Fairgrounds and features the international championship ice sculpting event. There are single-block events, multi-block events, and more. I'll let the photos speak for themselves. We went early enough in the day to see things in the daylight, and then we went back (free same-day re-admission) at night so see what everything looked like under the lights.

March 13th Lunar Eclipse
Here is a single shot of the March 13th Lunar eclipse in Fairbanks, Alaska. It was a thin overcast night and therefore we got no super good photos of the red that goes with a Lunar Eclipse.
