Begin December 1st
On the very first day of December Kazuya and I went to Jindai Botanical Gardens (near our house) and found some absolutely incredible fall colors. These trees are mostly maples.

Three more incredible maple tree shots. There is this relatively small area of maple trees in the Botanical Garden and the photographers just flock here at this time of the year.

And 3 more maple tree shots. The 2nd shot is a close-up of the leaves of Acer palmatum

Note the way Kazuya caught the sun rays slanting through the trees in this first shot. The 2nd and 3rd shots are the "big lawn" area with it's clump of Pampas Grass in the center of it. Both of these shots are the same area, taken from different sides.

These are Taxodium distichum or Bald Cypress trees along the pond area. Amazing how they get this "brick red" color. The reflection on the pond makes this area particularly picturesque.

Here is a more distant shot of the tree in Row 7. The 2nd shot is 3 beautiful trees at sunset time, so the sunset colors are adding their own colors to the colored leaves. The 3rd shot is a final one of the Bald Cypress trees and the pond.

End December 1st, Begin December 8th
On the 8th Kazuya and I went to Nogawa Park, near our house, and found more fall colors - which we did not expect to find. Here are 3 brilliant orange maples. The 2nd and 3rd shots show the pond behind the tree.

The first shot here is one more featuring the pond. The 2nd shot is just brilliant color and the 3rd shot is a shot of the fruits of Cornus officinalis, which you have seen flowers of in the spring (see February 2007's photos - Page 2, Row 7). We never dreamed that this bush had such incredibly colored fruits.

The first shot is an old style post box - we don't see many of these any more. The 2nd and 3rd shots are at a different place - Tonogayato Gardens in Kokubunji. Note how they put a "girdle" on the pine trees. Kazuya told me this is to attract any bugs which are in the tree. It is warmer under this band, so the insects go here to overwinter and then in about February the workers remove the "girdles" and burn them, therefore getting a lot of the insects too.
