Begin December 6th, Sourousen-En Garden |
On December 6th Kazuya and I went out on our bicycles in search of fall colors in our local area. We had a good idea where we were going before we ever left the house and our first stop was a small privately owned park called Sourousen-en. These first 2 shots show a nice Red Maple and some beautiful Ginkgo leaves. |

Here are 2 more shots taken at Sourousen-en - an orangish colored Red Maple and the sun shining through a Red Maple Tree. |

Tonogayato Garden |
The next place we went to was Tonogayato Garden near Kokubunji Station. We have seen really incredible fall colors here in past years so we had very high hopes for this garden. Well, as you can see, the fall colors were pretty nice, but a lot of the leaves had already fallen to the ground and we were not as impressed as we probably would have been if we had visited here a few days earlier. |

The 1st and 3rd shots show a nicely manicured pine tree. The 1st shot shows it reflected in the pond and the 3rd shot shows it from above. Here in Japan they use these rope "nets" to protect the manicured trees from snow which might come and break a branch or branches. The center photo shows the same Ginkgo Tree as shown in the center photo in Row 3, but obviously this shot was taken from a very different angle. |

Nogawa Park |
Now we are at the last stop - an unplanned one. On the way home we decided to stop by the closest park to our house - Nogawa Park. This one ended up being the one where we got the brightest red photos. The first shot in this row shows a Red Maple reflected in the pond. The 2nd and 3rd shots show some beautifully colored Red Maples. |

In this row the first shot is a nicely colored Red Maple. The 2nd shot is a Red Maple tree reflected in a pond - obviously not a 100% still pond! The 3rd shot is another beautiful Red Maple Tree. |

Here is a nice Red Maple Tree, then a nice single branch and then a Viola japonica which is kind of confused by the global warming maybe, anyway it is blooming now! You can see fall colors behind it. |

The first shot in this row is a small clump of Pampas Grass. The 2nd and 3rd shots are a Maple Tree which exhibits some nice orangish colors. And, that's all the photos from this outing. |

End December 6th, Begin December 12th - Another Trip to Nogawa Park |
On December 12th we went to Nogawa Park again to check on the progress of the fall colors. They were still pretty decent, but there were noticably fewer leaves remaining than there were last week. Here is a great Red Maple, an Orange Maple and another Red Maple. |

Here is another Red Maple and then 2 photos of Chimonanthus praecox f. concolor (Roubai in Japanese, Wintersweet in English). We were really surprised to find "spring" flowers at this time of the year, is this due to global warming or what? |

Here is a shot of bare branches and a beautiful blue sky, followed by another reflection on the pond. The 3rd shot is along the Nogawa (No River) - a couple of Pintal Ducks (Anas acuta). |
